About Otherside Diner

In the heart of Portland, Maine, there's a little gem known as Otherside Diner. With a cozy atmosphere and an inviting vibe, this spot is a must-visit for both locals and travelers looking to enjoy some comfort food with a unique twist. Nestled at 500 Washington Ave, it’s easy to spot on a breezy stroll around the neighborhood, offering a warm welcome to all who seek a memorable meal.

Upon entering the diner, one is immediately captivated by its charming, slightly retro decor. The eclectic mix of vintage and modern elements creates a setting that feels both nostalgic and fresh. A catchy playlist hums softly in the background, enhancing the laid-back atmosphere and making it a perfect spot to unwind.

Now, let’s talk about the menu because, honestly, it’s something to marvel at. Otherside Diner celebrates the classics but isn't afraid to push boundaries. Take, for instance, their take on the traditional eggs benedict. Here, it's served on a homemade biscuit with a delightful hollandaise sauce that one wouldn’t forget easily. For those seeking something different, the green chili cheeseburger might just hit the spot. It’s a spicy, juicy delight topped with fresh, crisp lettuce and a slice of cheddar that melts into pure bliss. Another favorite is the vegan hash. Packed with seasonal vegetables and lightly spiced, it’s a hearty choice for meat-eaters and vegans alike.

Sipping on their expertly brewed coffees or indulging in one of their signature milkshakes, patrons often find themselves lingering just a little while longer. Especially recommended is the maple bacon shake—a flavor combination that might sound bold but is brilliantly executed, achieving that perfect balance between sweet and savory.

It seems this diner has not only local fans but admirers from afar. Guest reviews frequently mention the friendly and attentive staff, who seem genuinely invested in ensuring everyone has a great time. Regulars rave about the consistency in food quality and service, and newcomers are often pleasantly surprised by the innovative flavors on offer. Not surprising then, on any given weekend morning, a bustling crowd can be found exchanging smiles and stories at this beloved establishment.

All in all, if ever in Portland and in need of a meal that promises satisfaction and a side of genuine hospitality, Otherside Diner is the place to be. A visit here is more than just an opportunity to fill up; it's a chance to experience a little slice of what makes this city so wonderfully irresistible.

Normally very busy but we caught it at a quiet time midweek around 10:30. Definitely recommend a reservation for the weekend. Friendly service. Excellent brunch. Loved the omelette (added olives). Generous portions. My mom loved the atmosphere. The menu has something for everyone, breakfast or lunch with great sides as well.

Went here after a looong night out and it healed me. Had the Hercules breakfast and it was incredible. Eggs were cooked well, toast was solid, lamb sausage was incredible. Pork belly was just ok in its own. Hashbrown was soo crispy. And finally the pancakes were the second best I’ve ever had, the citrus butter was absolutely incredible. Vibe was good, exactly what you want from a diner.

We were looking for a diner when we found this amazing place. From the friendly staff, clean atmosphere, steaming cup of coffee, to the delicious lemon zest pancakes with citrusy infused butter. The fluffy fresh produce omelet with garden berries on the side. Everything was perfect, making all of our breakfast dreams come true!

Really good food! We ordered the pancakes, it was soooo delicious with their special butter and the natural maple syrup. So yummy! 💖 then I ordered Bahn Mi, it was tasty! As an Asian person, it passed my standards. It's really good :) the server was also nice. This was a nice stopover for us traveling from MA to Maine. Would love to come back again

My wife and I arrived shortly after the diner opened and were shown a table right away. The menu has something for everyone, and the portions won't leave you hungry. My wife got the classic plate that came with eggs, potato ball, bacon, and english muffin. The eggs we perfectly scrambled, the potato ball was crispy, the bacon was thick and cooked chewy, and the muffin was thick. I got the corned beef hash with hashbrowns, eggs, and rye toast. I'm no corned beef hash connisour, but that was the best I've ever had. We also tried the lemon creme strudel frensh toast. The toast was thick and soft. The lemon creme was not overpowering, and the strudel topping put the dish over the top. Overall, the meal was fantastic, the staff was very friendly and I'm sure we'll be going back.

Eggs were perfect, as well as English muffins, but potato "cake" was heavy and gummy in the center. They would be better shaped more like a patty not ball. Service was excellent, lovely server.

My first time here, and I got the omelette special which was asparagus, shallots, feta and zatar, as well as a single pancake with the most delightful citrus butter! 2 days later and I can't stop thinking about the omelette without my mouth watering like crazy. I will definitely be back to try the falafel, which was highly recommended by my server.
